Northern Province, Rwanda
Volcanoes National Park lies in the Virunga Mountains of northern Rwanda, sharing a border with the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda. It is best known as one of the only places on Earth where travelers can trek to see endangered mountain gorillas in their natural habitat. Beyond gorilla trekking, the park offers golden monkey tracking, guided hikes up Mount Bisoke and Mount Karisimbi, and a visit to the tomb of primatologist Dian Fossey. The surrounding terraced hillsides and volcanic peaks make it one of the most scenic destinations in East Africa.

One of Africa's oldest rainforests, home to chimpanzees, Colobus monkeys, and Africa's highest canopy walkway with sweeping views over the forest.
